Last Friday, Darrel Scott, International Accounting Standards Board (IASB) member and chairman of the IASB's SME Implementation Group shared with attendees the background, current status and next steps of two IASB projects, the 2019 comprehensive review of the IFRS for SMEs standard, and the new "Subsidiaries that are SMEs" project.

IFRS 3 Business Combinations

The IASB has published IASB Exposure Draft ED/2019/3 Reference to the Conceptual Framework (Proposed amendments to IFRS 3) to update a reference to the Conceptual Framework for Financial Reporting without changing the accounting requirements for business combinations. The Institute is inviting comments on this proposal.

DIPN 23 (revised)

The Inland Revenue Department issued the Departmental Interpretation and Practice Notes No. 23 (Revised) to reflect changes brought about by various legislative amendments concerning Mandatory Provident Fund schemes and set out the Department’s revised assessing practice relating to defined benefit schemes.
