IIRC appoints Dominic Barton as new chair and launches new strategic phase

The International Integrated Reporting Council (IIRC) has appointed Dominic Barton, Senior Partner and former Global Managing Partner at McKinsey & Company, as its new Chair. The IIRC also announced the launch of a new global strategy, the "Momentum Phase", which includes advancing integrated thinking as part of corporate governance reform, facilitating alignment in the corporate reporting system and accelerating adoption in the United States and China. Keeping CPD record and documentary evidence
Members are required to keep their continuing professional development (CPD) records and documentary evidence of their verifiable CPD hours for a minimum of five years. Members selected for CPD audit will be asked to produce the records and supporting documents. Click to see a sample of CPD record.

Annual auditing update conference
This year's auditing update conference on 27 Oct will include an update on auditing standards, findings from the second-year review of revised auditor's reports in relation to key audit matters, blockchain technology and its potential impact on the audit and assurance profession, data analytics tools for the audits of SMEs, as well as the revised and restructured Code of Ethics for Professional Accountants.

Latest trend of China's economy
The seminar on 25 Oct will discuss the economic outlook of Mainland China, the its economic transformation and the latest issue and impacts of U.S.-China trade war.

Understanding personality styles for successful recruitment
The accounting industry has in recent years faced challenges in recruiting suitable employees. At the seminar on 2 Nov, the speaker will introduce DISC personality assessment and how it can help to identify suitable employees during interviews based on the personality analysis.

United Nations sanctions notices

The following United Nations Sanctions were published on 5 Oct:

The updated list of individuals, groups, undertakings and entities under the United Nations Sanctions (ISIL and AL-Qaida) Regulation.

Gazettal of Terrorists and Terrorist Associates under United Nations (Anti-terrorism Measures) Ordinance (Cap. 575) includes updating of specification of terrorists and terrorist associates designated by the United Nations Security Council (SC) Committees. There is also an amendment to one entry on the list of designations associated with ISIL (Da’esh) or Al-Qaida. For details, please refer to the press release issued by the United Nations SC Committees.

 
Sports competition results

Congratulations to the Institute's snooker team who won the silver cup champion and highest break record at the friendly match on 2 Sep, and came second at the tournament on 30 Sep against barristers, doctors, dentists, lawyers and surveyors. Click to see results and photos.

Recruiting sailing team

The Institute is recruiting a 12-person sailing team to compete in the Around The Island Race 2018 on 18 Nov. Interested members please submit your team list with yacht race experience by 19 Oct for selection.


Swimming classes

Enrol in the swimming classes to improve your techniques at the Victoria Park Swimming Pool every Tuesday or Thursday between November and January.
