  China Today Series  

The Institute has launched a new continuing professional development series, the China Today Series, to provide members with insights into the Mainland's development – and how they can gain from it. The seven-event series, starting from 25 Oct, will address the latest developments in Mainland China ranging from an overview of the economic outlook, to exploring new business opportunities both inside and outside China, and the continued opening up of the Chinese economy to the world.

 

Monitoring of members' CPD compliance
The Institute conducts a continuing professional development (CPD) audit exercise after the annual CPD declaration. Every member is subject to the annual CPD audit, and members selected in a random sample must submit their CPD records with supporting documents. Click to learn more about CPD audit exercise.

Setting the culture of ethics in business
The final module of the Financial Controllership Programme (FCP), Business Ethics, will highlight the important role of financial controllers in fostering a strong culture of ethics in business and instilling ethical values in their finance teams. Practice Management Series
The Practice Management Series from October to December aims to help small- and medium-sized practitioners better prepare for the challenges and opportunities ahead of them, adapt to changes, improve their management and operational efficiency, as well as support their sustainability and help them achieve a successful future.

Executive Programme for Accountants
Co-organized with the Hong Kong Institute of Directors, the executive programme beginning on 22 Oct will help you understand the duties of an investor relations officer of a listed company, directors' duties and responsibilities, corporate rescue procedure and impact of insolvent trading.

Financial gimmicks workshops
Enrol in the financial gimmicks workshops on 1 and 12 Nov to learn more about the nature of financial gimmicks relating to income distributions and capital restructuring, as well as use of corporate actions, all illustrated by case studies.

Forum-cum-Dialogue – Belt and Road Initiative: Infrastructure Financing
Join the Forum-cum-Dialogue on infrastructure financing under the Belt and Road initiative on 18 Oct, co-organized by The Hong Kong Institute of Bankers and the Asia-Pacific Structured Finance Association, to understand the unique role Hong Kong's financial, banking and professional sectors can play in the initiative. Institute members can register at discounted rate by selecting "Member of HKIB / SPSA; Sponsor; Supporting Organization".

Update no. 219 contains standards, interpretations and amendments to accounting standards that are effective for annual reporting periods beginning on or after 1 Jan 2018.

TCFD status report

The Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD) has published its 2018 Status Report, which provides an overview of current disclosure practices and their alignment with the core elements of the TCFD recommendations. 513 organizations have now expressed their support for the TCFD recommendations, signaling growing momentum behind climate-related disclosures.
