  Institute welcomes delegation from the International Ethics Standards Board for Accountants  

On 16 July the Institute hosted staff and working group members from the International Ethics Standards Board for Accountants (IESBA). Through outreach meetings with the Institute and other stakeholder groups, IESBA updated participants on recent pronouncements and developments, key ongoing projects and strategy. They also presented at an evening seminar attended by over 200 members on the restructured and revised Code of Ethics for Professional Accountants.

     
  2018 Honours List  
 

The Institute sends its heartiest congratulations to the following members who received honours from the HKSAR Government for their distinguished service. Congratulations to Past President Brian Stevenson (Gold Bauhinia Star), and past ex-officio council member Martin Siu (Silver Bauhinia Star). While Institute President Eric Tong received the Chief Executive’s Commendation for Community Service.

 
 

PICIG seminar – Developing next generation clinical systems by leveraging cloud technologies
At the Property, Infrastructure and Construction Interest Group seminar on 15 Aug, Mr. Hing-loi Hui from the Hong Kong Hospital Authority (HA) will explain how the HA builds and runs the region's largest healthcare IT infrastructure, its digital transformation of its infrastructure and services, as well as highlight how the HA Cloud connects the key stakeholders in the healthcare system to drive a new level of efficiency and service quality.

Tax risk management and internal tax functions

Enrol in the seminar on 31 Jul to gain insights into managing internal tax functions and common tax issues including tax disputes and tax compliance challenges.

Hong Kong Masters Athletics Championships

The Hong Kong Masters Athletics Championships 2018 will be held on 27-28 Oct at Tseung Kwan O Sports Ground. Members can enrol for any of the track and field events by 1 Aug.

The fitness and stretching training classes will begin in August. Limited spaces are still available for Class B.
Don't miss the swimming classes every Tuesday or Thursday between August and October to improve your swimming techniques.
Last call to enrol in the singing technique classes between July and October. Elementary, intermediate and advance sessions are available.
 
Discussion Paper Financial Instruments with Characteristics of Equity

The IASB published the first in a series of webcasts to help stakeholders understand the IASB's preferred approach to classification of a financial instrument from the perspective of the issuer as a financial liability or an equity instrument. The Institute invites your comments on the Discussion Paper by 9 Nov.


IFRS 17 implementation

The IASB has published a pocket guide and an example on reinsurance contracts held.

The list of relevant persons and entities under section 31 of the United Nations Sanctions (Democratic People's Republic of Korea) Regulation published on 10 Jul.

 
Dance Fun Night

The annual Dance Fun Night returns on 15 Sep at 百樂會 in Tsim Sha Tsui, which provides you an opportunity to have a glimpse of different types of Ballroom dance, Latin dance and Jazz Funk dance. Come join the party!


Dance events
Elementary level cha-cha-cha and intermediate level rumba classes will both begin on 2 Aug in Wanchai.
Join the next round of jazz classes on 11 Aug in Mongkok.
Dance and dine at the monthly dance dinner on 17 Aug at 百樂會 in Tsim Sha Tsui.

Green Day 2018

Join in the Community Chest's Green Day 2018 on 26-27 Aug, and help support medical and health services in Hong Kong. For donations of HK$75 or more enjoy free unlimited travel over the two days of the event.
