  Hong Kong and Guangdong CPA Alliance Meeting  

The Institute and Guangdong Institute of Certified Public Accountants (GDICPA) jointly organized a meeting for the Hong Kong and Guangdong CPA Alliance firms in Guangzhou on 7 Jun. Led by the Institute's Vice President, Johnson Kong, nearly 30 Hong Kong delegates including representatives from Alliance firms and SMP Committee members, were joined by over 40 of their Guangdong counterparts led by Mr Yuan Qing, Secretary General of GDICPA at this first meeting of Alliance firms since its launch in December 2017.

The meeting featured a seminar on "the Greater Bay Area Initiative and the Development of the Accounting Profession" delivered by Prof Mao Yanhua at Sun Yat-sen University and an expert on Guangdong-Hong Kong collaboration and development. The seminar was followed by a roundtable experience sharing session on further collaboration between the CPA Alliance firms.

The Restructuring and Insolvency Faculty lunch seminar on 26 Jun will cover land rights of indigenous inhabitants, and the court's stance on villagers cooperating with developers by selling to the developer their "Ding" rights.

Key tax and business issues in the Greater Bay Area
The 27 Jun Taxation Faculty seminar will cover the principles and directions under which the Greater Bay Area initiative will develop. The speaker will also discuss and analyse key tax and business considerations.

Effective wealth management not only will enable you to deliver wealth management solutions to your clients, but will allow you to make the most of your assets and ensure your financial objectives are met. Enrol in the wealth management series in July to enhance your knowledge about investment strategies.

What every business should know about data privacy

The seminar on 13 Jul will highlight key developments in data privacy in Hong Kong as well as across the globe, and suggest the practical steps to adhere to data privacy principles.

HKIB annual conference

The Hong Kong Institute of Bankers Annual Banking Conference will take place on 27 Sep. Themed “Banking for a Smart Society”, the event will look at how banks should digitize processes and channels to create a well integrated customer experience in a smart society. Institute members are eligible for a special enrolment rates at $3,500 (early bird until 30 Jun)/ $4,000 (full day) and $2,500 (early bird)/ $2,800 (half day) by indicating "HKICPA members" at registration.

United Nations sanctions notices

Gazettal of Terrorists and Terrorist Associates under United Nations (Anti-terrorism Measures) Ordinance (Cap. 575) includes updating of specification of terrorists and terrorist associates designated by the United Nations Security Council (SC) Committees. The Notice (i) specifies the updated list of terrorists and terrorist associates designated by the SC 1988 Committee on 10 Apr and the SC 1267/1989/2253 Committee on 5 Jun; and (ii) revokes the previous 30 May Notice. There is also an amendment to one entry on the list of designations associated with ISIL (Da’esh) or Al-Qaida.
