U.S. tax update
Join the seminar on 9 Jan for some insights on hot topics in U.S. tax and business world, specifically the Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act and the Offshore Voluntary Disclosure Program.

Implications of the code of ethics requirements on non-compliance with laws and regulations (NOCLAR)
Enrol in the lunch seminar on 18 Jan to meet with the former chair of the Institute's Ethics Committee, Alden Leung, who will share his thoughts on the implications of NOCLAR to accountants – particularly forensic practitioners.

Cybersecurity - Identifying and responding to a cyber incident
The IT series seminar on 22 Jan will cover how to identify cyber threats, the immediate steps to take during a cyber breach and the roles of information technology, human resources, legal, compliance and general management in a cyber response.

Financial crimes and white collar crimes in Hong Kong
Enrol in the seminar on 24 Jan to learn more about the latest financial crimes/ anti-money laundering regulations, detection and prevention of financial crime/ fraud, and financial crime investigation.

Presenting with confidence
The soft-skills workshop on 26 Jan will teach you how to excel in business presentation, motivate the audience and get trustworthy feedback.

Global asset management in 2018
The seminar on 31 Jan will provide analytical framework for asset management from a global macro fund perspective, cover the latest economic trends and discuss asset prices patterns.

Professional Diploma in China Tax – China tax course
The China tax course starting on 10 Feb is a compulsory component of the Institute's Professional Diploma in China Tax (中國稅務專業文憑), providing foundation knowledge on China taxation laws, practice and computation. The course can also be taken on a standalone basis to complement your China tax knowledge. Join the demo lesson on 19 Jan to learn more.

Enrol in the FSIG seminar on 24 Jan for an update on regulatory developments in the funds industry by Christina Choi, Executive Director of Investment Products, Securities and Futures Commission.
Apply for the Specialist Designation in Insolvency by
31 Jan, which is open to members who have considerable experience and competence in insolvency practice and have gained the SQ (Insolvency).
Last call to join the YMC and PICIG joint seminar on
22 Jan to understand the reasons behind overheated Hong Kong real estate prices.
Institute's submission on IESBA Exposure Draft

The Institute submitted comments on the IESBA Exposure Draft Proposed Revisions to the Code Pertaining to the Offering and Accepting of Inducements.

HKFRS updates
The Institute published a summary which outlines the new and amended Standards and Interpretations issued that are:
applicable to December 2017 year-end; and
effective subsequent to December 2017 year-end, but may be adopted early.

Members' handbook update

Update no. 211 relates to the issuance of HKFRS 17 Insurance Contracts.

Standard Chartered Marathon updates

The Institute will provide two booths at the race on 21 Jan at the Causeway Bay Sports Ground for onsite support, including 10 km runner's pack storage, hot food and physiotherapy treatment. Our sincere thanks to all of you for your continued support.
