Better communication in financial reporting


Dramatic changes to the way in which companies present financial reports are currently being debated. Help shape the future of financial reporting by joining a roundtable discussion for preparers or users of financial statements.

Valuation series
Enrol in the valuation series seminars between Sept and Nov which will focus on different important valuation issues from a reviewer’s perspective.

IT series
The IT series running from Sept to Nov will cover new business models expedited in the era of big data and heightened cyber security.

Join the PAIB Conference on 9 Sept to look into the diverse roles played by accountants in business, and obtain useful tips about how PAIBs can become business leaders.
The first seminar of the capital markets series on 6 Sept will discuss listing requirements, and implications of the proposed new board and a review of the Growth Enterprise Market.

The soft skills workshop on 14 Sept will provide an updated framework with principles and techniques for leaders to navigate both internally and externally.

Greater Bay Area challenges
The Institute of Accountants Exchange is organizing a forum on 9 Sept to discuss the challenges and opportunities for youth arising from the development of the Greater Bay Area in China, relating in particular to innovation, start-ups and entrepreneurship. Merry Monday – Myths of Wine

At the Merry Monday on 4 Sept, speaker Gerard Leung will uncover some common myths about wine such as why people always believe Riesling is sweet and why they say wine improves with age.

Last call for CPA Music Night

Last chance to participate in the CPA Music Night on 2 Sept! Members are welcome to sign up for solo and group performances. Bring your friends and family (admission is free). Registration has been extended to 13 Aug.

Run and walk for volunteering

The Agency for Volunteer Service has organized a charity walk and run event on 22 Oct at The Arcade, Cyberport, to raise funds for its programmes on encouraging the public to take part in quality volunteer services. Visit the event webpage for more details and enrolment.

Letter to IASB Chairman
The Institute wrote to the IASB Chairman to express concerns and provide recommendations regarding two tentative decisions on the Definition of a Business.

Education session on new major standards
For analysts, investors and users of financial reports – the Head of Investor Engagement at the IASB will hold an education session on 4 Sept from 4:30-7 p.m. to explain the major impacts arising from IFRS 15 Revenue from Contracts with Customers and IFRS 9 Financial Instruments. Recruiting CPA table tennis team
Put forward your name if you are interested in representing the Institute at the RSCP Table Tennis Tournament on 10 Sept. All applicants are required to undergo a selection process and the selection criteria are based on level of skill, results of past competitions, sportsmanship and team spirit.

Tennis training courses

The 4-session elementary and intermediate training courses in Sept are now open for enrolment. Experienced coaches will provide structural training and practice.
